Volunteer with NCTA

Do you want to volunteer for our dynamic association?
It takes a village! Here at the NCTA, we are always busy organizing and preparing events and workshops that help us all grow in our profession. If you are a member, have time to spare and would like to be added to our volunteer database, please contact us.

See our Pro bono page for more information on volunteering for the wider community.

Some of our NCTA Volunteer Activities

  • Providing refreshments for events or workshops
  • Finding speakers for general meetings
  • Organizing a coffee gathering, lunch or happy hour in your local area
  • Writing, editing or proofreading for Translorial, our journal
  • Managing advertising for Translorial, our journal

NCTA Volunteer Positions

If you’re interested in getting more involved with the NCTA on an ongoing basis, we have a few volunteer positions that require a small amount of time throughout the year. These positions open up periodically, so please let us know if you would be interested in one of them.

  • General Meeting Refreshments Coordinator
Purchase refreshments for the General Meeting, set up and coordinate clean-up after the meeting. A budget will be provided and the cost will be reimbursed.
    » Contact: Events Director
  • Membership Outreach Assistant
Identify organizations, such as cultural groups or international chambers of commerce, where we might be able to reach translators and interpreters who are interested in joining a professional association. Work with membership director to promote NCTA meetings and workshops to community organizations, universities, and online to get the word out to potential new members.
    » Contact: Membership Director
  • Marketing Manager and Assistant
The Marketing Manager will work with the board to promote the NCTA as a quality source of translators and interpreters and generate more use of NCTA's professional referral database. Activities might include creating a marketing plan, researching the cost of advertising, as well as initiating contact with existing leads and implementing marketing ideas the board has developed. The Marketing Assistant will work with the Marketing Manager to promote the NCTA and collaborate to generate new ideas and assist in implementation.

  • Public TV Pledge Drive Coordinators (2)
Coordinate NCTA participation in either KQED (San Francisco) or KTEH (San Jose) membership drive. This is an opportunity to get some publicity for NCTA and for members to have a chance to volunteer together for an evening and get to know each other. Set a date, publicize on NCTA member list, and get a participant count. Coordinate with staff at KQED and KTEH.

  • Translorial Ad Manager
Follow up with current advertising budget and available advertising space with Publications Director, contact current advertisers in time for contract renewal, and follow leads to prospect for new advertisers when needed.
    » Contact: Translorial Publisher
  • Translorial Mailing Manager
Collect latest member and courtesy recipient list from webmaster or administrator shortly before mailing, prepare list for mailing service format, and supervise mailing service. Ensure that issue is mailed to members so that the journal is received at least ten days before General Meeting.

  • Translorial Proofreaders
Proofread assigned portions of Translorial prior to publication.
